NEWS: Airline’s Taylor carnage immortalized in song

When musician Dave Carroll checked in his beloved Taylor guitar on a flight from Halifax to Nebraska for a short tour, he never could have imagined the horrible fate that would befall the guitar before his very eyes during a stopover in Chicago.

Alas, in Carroll’s own words: “In the spring of 2008, Sons of Maxwell were traveling to Nebraska for a one-week tour and my Taylor guitar was witnessed being thrown by United Airlines baggage handlers in Chicago. I discovered later that the $3500 guitar was severely damaged. They didn’t deny the experience occurred but for nine months the various people I communicated with put the responsibility for dealing with the damage on everyone other than themselves and finally said they would do nothing to compensate me for my loss. So I promised the last person to finally say “no” to compensation (Ms. Irlweg) that I would write and produce three songs about my experience with United Airlines and make videos for each to be viewed online by anyone in the world. United: Song 1 is the first of those songs. United: Song 2 has been written and video production is underway. United: Song 3 is coming. I promise.”

So here’s the result: Dave’s song ‘United Breaks Guitars.’ You can read the full version of the fiasco HERE.

By the way, the Taylor guitar Dave is playing in the video is a T5 model. Here are a few of the colors available from Musician’s Friend:

I saw this on the local 10pm news in San Jose, CA. last night. This guy is brilliant. United Airlines better step up and make this right or else get their butt handed to them with negative publicity. As a side note, the United Airlines cleaning crew in Philadelphia stole my wifes purse. I know it was them because we had an infant and were the last ones off the plane. Bunch of bastards.

I've never had anything like that happen (touch wood!) but man, that'd be a nightmare.

I hear United have contacted the guy after hearing the song. I'm trying to find out what they've said so I can write a follow-up story.
