NEWS: New Ibanez series – RGD

This photo has been doing the rounds on a few forums for a few days, and I don’t like to post interweb leaks and stuff, but since this is from a Japanese guitar magazine – not a catalog hastily snapped on a cellphone or something like that – and because Ibanez has commented on it on their official forum, I figure it’s okay to post without getting smacked. Dig that cool bevelling.

Ibanez has confirmed via their forum that the ‘D’ stands for ‘Diamond Cut.’

I’m not sure what I like best – the crisp clean bevelling, the Edge Zero bridge, the no-tone layout, the three-way toggle switch… too cool!

There’s another official Ibanez pic (below) from Loud Park … by the way, note the RGA guitars on the top rack… am I seeing an 8 string RGA with locking trem there? Is it flanked by two 6-strings, or a 6 and a 7?

I can’t wait to see if these guitars are at NAMM!

Hmm they look a bit like the Petrucci model Ernie Ball don't you think?

These look amazing. I actually saw one of these a couple of weekends ago at Better Music. A fixed bridge model. Australis had one accidently sent to them, and Better Music took it. Sold within the weekend they placed it on display. Kind of like a cross between a Radius and an RG.

  • Peter Hodgson says:

Yeah, definitely a bit of an EBMM Petrucci vibe. And a bit of Caparison too.

Better Music had one? Wow. Would love to have snapped that up. Gotta love happy accidents like that!

By the way Peter not sure if you have had a chance to try the FR in that picture above but they are pretty special, my mate Rob (the one with the '57 RI) has one and it is an amazing instrument and the fixed bridge and Tele style body just ooze tone.

It does have a very EBMM/Petrucci thing going on. Still, it's nice to see a cool new rg concept. Now if they would just re-release the 540 pro….
