The Straits to tour the UK

One of the first albums I ever owned was Dire Straits’ Brothers In Arms. I got it for Christmas, the same year I got a plastic microphone with a stand and little amplifier (with a star-shaped volume knob – how rock). That Christmas day I sat out on the fence in my front yard singing Dire Straits songs to the neighbourhood. Mark Knopfler was one of my biggest early guitar heroes. Oh and one time I copied out the lyrics to ‘One World’ by hand but wrote ‘Lyrics by Peter Hodgson’ at the top just to see what it’d feel like. Felt awesome. Anyway, I don’t know if we’ll ever see a fully-fledged Dire Straits reunion with Mark Knopfler involved, but the following is some pretty awesome news nonetheless.

COOL GEAR ALERT: 7-string EverTune bridge

Have you seen the EverTune bridge? It’s a very clever fixed bridge which maintains tuning stability no matter what, for the life of the string. Sounds like magic, right? According to EverTune, “The benefits of this old school, all mechanical solution are that it is very rugged and reliable with only one moving part, and with all critical parts being made from high quality steel. It is also relatively reasonable in price, as opposed to servo-based (robotic) systems, and extremely effective.”

Now they’re releasing a 7-string version of the EverTune bridge. Great news for seven-stringer-slingers who don’t need a whammy bar. It’s also available in 6-string versions for Strat-style, Telecaster-style and Gibson-style axes.
