One of the first albums I ever owned was Dire Straits’ Brothers In Arms. I got it for Christmas, the same year I got a plastic microphone with a stand and little amplifier (with a star-shaped volume knob – how rock). That Christmas day I sat out on the fence in my front yard singing Dire Straits songs to the neighbourhood. Mark Knopfler was one of my biggest early guitar heroes. Oh and one time I copied out the lyrics to ‘One World’ by hand but wrote ‘Lyrics by Peter Hodgson’ at the top just to see what it’d feel like. Felt awesome. Anyway, I don’t know if we’ll ever see a fully-fledged Dire Straits reunion with Mark Knopfler involved, but the following is some pretty awesome news nonetheless.

The Straits’ upcoming ‘The Sound of Dire Straits’ UK tour includes 3 original members and some of the top session players to form a powerful, driven, and compelling live rock band not to be missed. The Straits will perform songs from the classic albums ‘Dire Straits’ (1978), ‘Communiqué’ (1979), ‘Making Movies’ (1980), ‘Love Over Gold’ (1982), ‘Brothers In Arms’ (1985) and ‘On Every Street’ (1991).
