Bryan Beller! Marco Minnemann! Guthrie Govan! What more do you need to know? Go go go, buy buy buy! The album is killer (look for my review soon) and you need to make it a part of your life.
Woohoo! Opeth are coming to Australia this December to kick our collective Antipodean asses with material from their killer new album Heritage as few as a few old favourites reworked in the vein of the Heritage stuff. (Read my interview with Opeth’s Mikael Åkerfeldt here)
Here’s the press release about the tour, for which you can thank Soundwave Touring:
OPETH are Pioneers.
OPETH continue to create epic and iconic music; inventing and reinventing the rules as they go along. With over Twenty years and Ten albums under their collective belt, OPETH’s legion of fans has grown as much as their kaleidoscopic sound has broadened.
OPETH have reinforced their hold on the mantle of the most innovative, creative and revered heavy artist of recent times with the release of ‘Heritage’…”a progressive vision of metal’s limitless possibilities when placed in the hands of our generations greatest musicians and it’s an absolute masterpiece.” – Metal Hammer
The new Megadeth single “Public Enemy No. 1” is now available on iTunes! Here’s the link. It’s a pretty rockin’ track with elements of “Hangar 18,” at least to my ears. I’m very interested to hear their new album, Th1rt3en. The album contains new studio versions of a few songs that have been released as demos before, some as long ago as about but they’re kickass songs that deserve the full production treatment.
Th1rt3en will be released by Roadrunner in November. It’s the first Megadeth album since The World Needs A Hero to feature David Ellefson on bass, and the second to feature the utterly monstrous Chris Broderick on guitar. Cool.Dean Dave Mustaine guitars at Musician’s Friend (click to buy – I get a small commission from any sales, so if you do it’ll really help me out!)
I was just cruising the Australian Ibanez site (the local distributor is Australis) and I came across some pretty sweet new limited edition models. I have a well-documented Ibanez addiction, and some of these, especially the RG2560s, well, I simply need these babies in my life. Some of them might not be available in all parts of the world, so go to ibanez.com and look at the models for your country (hint: look in the rotating news bar near the top of the page rather than the specific model pages).
Ash body, Edge Zero bridge, 5-piece Wizard HP maple/walnut neck with rosewood fretboard, H-S-S pickup layout with DiMarzio IBZ pickups, cosmo black hardware, Crimson Wine and Abyss Blue Burst finishes. Want.
Okay, so here’s the first Metallica/Lou Reed clip, from their forthcoming album Lulu.
I know it’s not fair to judge an album on one small clip, but so far this …this ain’t grabbing me. I’m a huge Metallica fan and I rather dig Lou Reed (saw him live about 10 years ago and it was awesome) but if that’s the feel and the mix, this will go down as an interesting curio in the Metallica and Lou Reed discographies rather than the essential deviation I’d hoped for. But we’ll see.
By the way, Lulu and the new Megadeth album Th1rt3en come out on the same day. Interesting.
