I was lucky enough to be offered some free tickets so I invited my old school buddy and his friend, as well as a guy I know who’s had a bit of a hard time recently and who I thought might enjoy the chance to take him mind off it with a gig. Like all Vai gigs it was a wildly diverse experience: blinding virtuosity, humour, melody, showmanship, and all-round good vibes. Charvel Joins Forces With Guthrie Govan

GGThe news that Guthrie Govan has departed his partnership with Suhr in favour of Charvel isn’t particularly new but it seems like a particularly good time for Charvel to put out a press release about it: The Aristocrats have just released their new album Culture Clash and Guthrie is also currently working with Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree). Guthrie and Charvel are currently working on some guitar ideas that might find their way into the hands of the public in the future, which – given Guthrie’s taste in guitar desgin and his intiutiveness for player-and-tone-friendly features, would be a very, very good thing.
