Big Day Out Line-up Announced

BDOThe Big Day Out is the big daddy of Australian music festivals, stretching back to the early 90s. Whereas once it was sort of like the Australian version of Lollapalooza, nowadays it’s more of a blend of mainstream and 90s nostalgia acts. I guess the idea is to bring together folks who used to go to the BDO in the 90s, contemporary music fans and people who just want to go enjoy a music festival. The metal crowd is catered to very well here by the mighty Soundwave juggernaut, so the BDO isn’t quite the guitarfest that I Heart Guitar readers might necessarily be seeking out. However, there are a few great guitar-driven bands on the 2014 line-up – even if there’s nothing particularly shreddy or overly metallic aside from a certain affiliated-with-Satan group of secretive Swedes. So who are the bands? Without further ado, here’s the announcement video, and the list of announced bands so far. I’ve bolded the more guitarry ones for you… Read More …

Additional Jackson 2013 Summer Releases

ThumbFollowing on from last monthJackson has just announced another round of Summer 2013 models – 13, in fact – and they’re all pretty nice looking. For example, there’s a rather cool new string-thru Phil Demmel beastie which could certainly fend off stage invaders. And I’ve had a huge Guitar Crush on Jackson Kellys ever since Marty Friedman shredded the hell out of them in Megadeth. But my particular favourite of the new bunch is the quilty green 8-string, somewhat unromantically dubbed the SLATFXQMG 3-8. I’ve always had a thing for quilty green Jacksons, ever since coveting one at World of Music back in the day. But I digress: here are the new models. Which one do you like best? Read More …
