Mike Keneally Reissues Sluggo!

SluggoDo you have an album that helps to define a particular your of your life? I have a few, and one of the most important for me is Sluggo! by Mike Keneally & Beer For Dolphins. I got this album in 1998 and that was a year that was pretty huge for me in terms of that whole ‘defining your sense of self’ thing. I didn’t yet know who I was going to ultimately be, but I knew which things resonated with me. And Sluggo! hit me hard (probably even harder than Scambot did a few years ago). It’s so creative, expressive, funny, intense, melodic, virtuosic… and it was also a little raw, at least in its sonics, which is why it’s awesome to hear that Mike has given Sluggo! the remix treatment! It’s available in a variety of formats featuring a great deal of unreleased audio and video material, and featuring new stereo and surround mixes of the album. “I’ve always felt the album is really good, but I’ve had reservations about the mix forever,” Mike says. “It’s a long story (told at length in the new liner notes in the reissue packaging), but the upshot is I’m finally completely happy with the sound of the album. Sixteen years after recording it, I finally feel like I’ve finished Sluggo!
