Korg Introduces the Pitchblack Mini

PRESS RELEASE: Smaller in size than the previous Pitchblack, the durable new Pitchblack mini (PBmini) from Korg was designed to take up less space on the users’ pedalboard. With ultra-high-precision tuning, superior functionality, true bypass design, and a large LED display, the Pitchblack mini is positioned to exceed the needs of any guitar player. The PBmini has a minor footprint (approximately the size of an average credit card), battery or DC power operated and weighing only 4.5 ounces, the Pitchblack mini inherits accuracy and ease of use from Korg’s 50 years of tuning innovation. Keith Merrow Demos The Seymour Duncan Palladium Gain Stage

A lot of pedals make the claim that they’re designed to give you the feel of an amp, but the Seymour Duncan Palladium Gain Stage is probably the first pedal I’ve played that’s really come good on this claim. I spent a lot of time with it in January, often plugged directly into a power amp, and it really nails the feel, in terms of the responsiveness and all those intangible little harmonic overtones that happen around your playing when you’re blasting through a real amp. Keith Merrow has made a fantastic video of this pedal used in a metal context. It’s great for all sorts of things though, and I found it to be really, really, really great at Alice In Chains Dirt-style tones. This pedal is shipping soon so keep an eye out for it.

David Bowie’s Custom Steinberger

I just spotted this on the Juliens Auctions website last night while cruising for cool old auctions to geek out about: David Bowie’s custom Steinberger, serial number 7712, which sold at auction for $12,500 in 2009. Bowie seemed to like his headless guitars – you can see him playing a red Hohner in the video for “Valentine’s Day” from The Next Day just a few years ago – and this one has a particularly interesting story which, like a lot of great Bowie-related guitar stuff, has a lot to do with Reeves Gabrels. The Making of St. Vincent’s Ernie Ball Music Man Guitar

This is pretty much the best thing ever, for so many reasons.

* It’s a beautiful guitar.
* St. Vincent is a great player who has something to say and the confidence and vision to say it.
* Ernie Ball Music Man makes incredible instruments
* This video reinforces the fact that the vast majority of the people working in the musical instrument industry have never lost sight of the excitement of hearing the ‘ka-klik’ of a cable being plugged in, the soft hum of an amp warming up, the feel of a guitar vibrating against your body at that first chord.

Trivium Australian Tour!

PRESS RELEASE: With a swag of awards and sold out stadium tours across the globe left in their wake, we are thrilled to announce that US metal monoliths TRIVIUM will be shredding across Australia this April.

Widely tipped for greatness (some prophecies come true!) after their successful sophomore release, ‘Ascendancy’ in 2005, Kerrang! Declared it “the most skull-peeling collection of pulverizing metal grooves and fretboard annihilation you’ll hear in a long time.” Five studio albums late, TRIVIUM are continuing their climb towards metal greatness with the release of their new album, ‘Silence In The Snow’.
“Silence might be remembered as the moment Trivium secured their status as modern metal great..” – The Guardian

Aww who’s a cute little cutie. Check out the EVH 5150 Micro Stack. It’s a one-watt, single-channel amp with one 3” speaker and dedicated controls for Gain, Volume and Tone, its own integrated tilt-back kickstand and a 1/4” headphone jack. It’s powered by 9VDC adapter or 9v batter and the look is all 5150. Could you imagine having a mini wall of these on your desk?

You can pick one (or a mini wall of them) up from VanHalenStore.com.
