Fender George Harrison Rosewood Telecaster. Whoa.

One of my all-time favourite guitars is George Harrison’s famous rosewood Fender Telecaster – y’know, the one he played on the roof of Apple headquarters on January 30, 1969 in those spectacular green pants? Well the Fender Custom Shop is offering a reproduction of this iconic guitar right down to the finest detail. Wider nut? Yep. Two-piece rosewood neck? Uh huh. Logo over the finish instead of under it? You got it. And get this: Abigail “Abby” Ybarra came out of retirement to wind the pickups. The only thing it doesn’t include is those pants.

Who the F*@% is Frank Zappa? Find Out By Buying His House!

Actor/Director Alex Winter is making the definitive, approved-by-the-family documentary on Frank Zappa’s life, and he’s been given unprecedented access to Frank’s archives to achieve it. But digitising and ordering all of that material is gonna take time and money. So Alex and co have launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund this process. The initial goal is $500,000, which will let them get started. At $1 million they’ll be able to shoot the entire movie. At $2 million they’ll be able to complete all the postproduction stuff and everything. And if the full goal of $3 million is reached there will also be a companion book. There are all sorts of pledge perks available at a variety of price points – downloads, shirts, random Zappa ephemera, a visit to the Vault, a chance to play Zappa’s guitars, producer credits – but the most exciting of all has gotta be… Frank Zappa’s Actual Frigging House. How A Guitar Pedal Helped Bring BB-8 To Life

bb-8

If you’re a Star Wars fan like me you probably fell instantly in love with BB-8, that adorable spheroid critter. I love how much emotion is conveyed in his movements and voice. And it turns out a very simple guitar effect was used as part of the sound design process to imbue his vocalisations with a touch of humanity: the humble talk box. Jammed into the face of none other than SNL alumni Bill Hader. The info is contained in this great interview by Amy Ratcliffe for The Nerdist featuring supervising sound editor Matthew Woodand supervising sound editor/sound designer David Acord. Read More …
