Michael Kelly 1950s Series 7 & 8-Strings!

kelly1

This is hands down one of the coolest things I saw at NAMM: a pair of new 1950s Series models by Michael Kelly Guitars. A 7-string and an 8-string! I’ve always felt that the Telecaster-style design is perfect for extended range instruments because it really encourages attack and note separation, and prompts the player to explore all sorts of interesting chordal stuff. Plus they look badass. They’re rocking Flame Maple tops of Alder bodies with Maple necks, Rosewood fretboards, Rockfield Fat Ass pickups, and 25.5″ scale length for the 7-string and 27″ for the 8-string. Check out the 7-string here and the 8-string here.

7-String Les Paul Makes Life Worth Living

LPCS7EBCH1-Finish-Shot

Uh oh. Don’t tell my wallet but Gibson just released my dream guitar: a 7-string Les Paul with Seymour Duncan JB and ’59 humbuckers (the ’59 is my favourite neck pickup) and a 15dB onboard boost! The Les Paul Classic 7-string has all the stuff you’d expect from a Les Paul – mahogany body and neck, maple top, rosewood fretboard, Tune-O-Matic bridge with stop tailpiece, 24.75” scale length – but it’s also got, y’know, an extra string.

REVIEW: Mayones Regius PRO 7

Mayones Guitars have been around for decades but in recent years they’ve really risen to prominence, partly through better distribution, partly through home high-profile players such as Periphery’s Misha Mansoor, and partly because the world is finally catching up to their extremely high quality. You can ogle photos of a Mayones online all you want but that doesn’t tell you the whole story: they feel as great as they look, and you get a definite sense of ‘Daaaaaamn that’s a high-quality guitar’ when you pick one up. Seymour Duncan Releases 7/8-String Black Winter

You asked for it, you got it: Seymour Duncan has launched new 7 and 8-string versions of the Black Winter, the aggressively brootals humbucker set originally designed for extreme metal players of Scandinavia who were looking for more aggression without sacrificing definition and clarity. After consistently being asked to make this pickup available for the rest of the world, Seymour Duncan did so. Now, after being consistently asked to make it available for extended range guitars, here it is! You’ll now be able to get all the heavy saturation, articulation and aggression of the Black Winter in your 6, 7 or 8 string axe. Read More …

Schecter Blackjack Collection Shipping Now

blackjackOne of the coolest product lines of 2014 has gotta be the Schecter Blackjack Collection, which is shipping now. Schecter has taken almost a custom shop approach to these instruments: on the surface they appear to be pretty stripped-back, but when you look closer all of the guitars have Crimson Red binding and inlays, combined with Glow-In-Dark Side markers and passive Seymour Duncan pickups. The Avenger and C models each have five variations 6-string with HipShot USA fixed bridge, Floyd Rose or Floyd Rose with Sustainiac, plus fixed-bridge 7 and 8-string models. And there’s also a 6-string Tempest, a very cool Schecter design that I’m glad to see back in the line. If you’d like to order one from Amazon.com, here are some links (and each is also available left-handed):
