Steve Vai Releases Vai360° iOS App

vaiSteve Vai and Mativision have just released Vai360°, an interactive iOS app which lets you stand onstage with Steve and band to experience a live concert happening all around you. Captured at a recent Vai show at the Hammersmith Apollo in London, the app gives you access to six different cameras which you can virtually rotate (either manually or using your device’s gyro feature), or you can put the app in Auto mode to call the shots for you. There’s also a tour of Vai’s Harmony Hut studio where you can covet his guitars and amps in 360 degrees while he talks you through what’s what. I’ve been messing around with the app this morning and it’s really cool. Man, Vai uses every centimetre of that stage, doesn’t he! Check out the video below and read the press release. Then go get it in the app store! Read More …

Wow! This is a very cool idea. I especially like the headphone jack, because the tangle-factor is always so much higher with iOS guitar devices And their associated cables. They seem to have thought of everything herE.

REVIEW: Sonoma Wire Works GuitarJack Model 2

The iPad is the perfect practice tool for guitarists. Because it instantly becomes whichever app you load, it can be a warehouse full of amps, a fully-featured demo studio, a TAB reader and writer, a guitar synth, a scale library, and probably a whole bunch of other thing we haven’t even envisioned yet. But most of these functions are useless with a guitar signal entering the iPad. There are plenty of interfaces for guitar out there, and they all seem to operate in different ways. Some are simple and inexpensive, while others are a bit more pro-spec. That’s where the GuitarJack Model 2 comes in.

NEWS: Nine Inch Nails iPhone app goes live

NIN Access, the highly-anticipated Apple iPhone application, has gone live, although it seems to be crashing my phone so far… not sure what’s going on there. Some other users on Twitter are reporting the same thing but it’s working fine for others.

UPDATE: I was able to get around the crashing problem by changing my time zone to Los Angeles. Weird! There will be an update of the app next week so I’m sure they’ll address this problem soon. I guess it confused the app that Australia is 16 hours or so ahead, and they haven’t quite developed the technology to beam software into the future.

There’s an interesting article about the app at Wired and you can download the app by going to access.nin.com/download.
