Devin Townsend’s Peavey V – the one offered up as one of the perks on his Casualties of Cool PledgeMusic drive – is being offered for sale by its new owner. This is Devin’s personal axe, the only production model he owned of his now-discontinued Peavey guitar. On the PledgeMusic drive, Devin said: “This guitar is my personal production model of the signature Peavey DT model that I’ve been playing for 4 years. I only recieved one of the production models, and this is it. Its a very special guitar to me and means a good amout to me. It’s a baritone 7 string Flying V with a mahogany body, and a maple cap. EMG pickups, Sperzel locking tuners and a custom DTP inlay on the 12th fret. It comes in a groovy coffin case and is just a beast of a guitar.” Click here to bid or to see plenty more pics. It’s here! Ziltoid.com, an important part of Devin Townsend’s monumental Z2 project! Here you’ll find all sorts of Ziltoidian goodness including the first of three ZTV episodes which set the stage for the album. You can read my interview with Devin here and my review of Z2 here. Oh and dates for Devin’s Australian masterclass tour here. And now for the press release…
PRESS RELEASE: Devin Townsend has announced the launch of ZTV, a brand new video series starring the inimitable Ziltoid, as well as a brand new interactive site dedicated to him. Following on from the announcement of the Z² double-album, which is due for release on the 27th October 2014 in Europe and 28th October 2014 in the US, the newest glimpse into the Ziltoid story can be viewed here: www.ziltoid.com
Devin had this to say: Hey guys! Devin here… been a few weeks since the Z2 album was delivered, and we’ve been getting everything ready for the upcoming tours and the release of the records. As I’ve mentioned, Z2 is an experiment for me in trying different mediums to illustrate a concept, and as such…I’m really excited to present to you the new Ziltoid website, and the first of three ZTV episodes leading up to the album release! The crowd-funding campaign has allowed me to actualize Ziltoid and its music in ways I’d always hoped for, and the idea with the three web episodes is to set up the concept of the album. This first one is less over the top than it gets by episode three, but it needs to establish the whole story before it gets more absurd. It is a great pleasure to be able to do this, and was an awesome experience (other than having to explain to management and family why I spent so much money on puppets =)
Thank you for the support and allowing me to continue =)
Pre-orders for the Z² album are also now available from the following places:

There are some albums that you just get straight away because they reveal everything about themselves right upfront. Devin Townsend’s albums have never been like that. There’s too much going on on a whole bunch of levels: emotionally, conceptually, orchestrationally, texturally. And there’s a lot to digest with Z2. It’s made up of two very different albums, Sky Blue and Dark Matters. Sky Blue is the Devin Townsend Project, and Dark Matters is the sequel to 2007’s sci-fi metal opus Ziltoid The Omniscient. And some tracks feature the vocals of thousands of fans, invited to participate online in what has been named the Universal Choir.

There’s like a secret knowing wink between Devin Townsend fans, a shared understanding that within the multiple layers, in amongst the links between songs, albums and projects, nesting in the balance of depth, introspection, humour and expression, there’s something in there that we all relate to and that Devin has been able to articulate in a way that resonates with us. This year is a great time to see the extremes of this musical voice, with the space country of Casualties of Cool and the forthcoming Z2. And for those of us who like to throw on the headphones, sit back and think “How does he do it? How can I dip into that well too for my own musical expression?” Devin will be hitting Australia in October for a series of masterclasses for Thump Music where he’ll give us a peek into the guitar, vocal and production ideas that inform and express his work. So with the masterclass tour coming up and the release of Z2 just around the corner, I caught up with Devin to talk about what’s what.
I’m stoked about this clinic tour.
So am I, actually! It gives me an opportunity to dig into some of the things I’ve wanted to share with people, to be fair. I’ve spent a long time making records and I’ve kinda gotten to this point recently where it’s like, shit, now it’s time to step it up and get other people to start taking over. Read More …
Prepare yourselves for the subjugation! Devin Townsend is heading to Australia for a series of exclusive guitar masterclasses in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, right ahead of the release of his next opus, Z2, which comprises two discs: Dark Matters (Ziltoid) and Sky Blue (Devin Townsend Project). There will be two levels of ticket pricing: a standard general admission ticket and a limited VIP package which will include exclusives such as a meet-and-greet with Devy and a seat in the first three rows. And during the clinics there will be a Q&A session so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to pick Devin’s seemingly massive brain. Merchandise and music will be available on the day too (cash sales only). Tickets available now here! Here’s the press release, including tour dates: Read More …
“Casualties Of Cool is one of my favourite things, if not my favourite thing I’ve done to date. It’s pretty left of centre, and now that my big Z2 project and all its chaos is nearing completion, it means even more to me. A dark and quiet place to go.
Finally, its available for people who didn’t order through Pledge, and I’m proud to present the video for ‘Flight’, done by long-time friend and collaborator Konrad Palkeiwicz. Konrad moved to an Island and filmed his interpretation of the song and I think it’s beautiful.
We have been rehearsing for our upcoming shows at Union Chapel and Savoy Teatteri in Finland, and it’s really a pleasure to have the ability to do this type of music. Thank you for the support!
