To The Dudes Who Made A Petition To Get Ghost To Split Up…

Ghost

…uh… you know you don’t have to listen to them, right?

From the petition website:

We petition against Ghost of the heavy metal genre that continues to make albums and tour. Many people getting into metal think that they are the real deal and that we should forget the real bands like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, etc. They wish to destroy real metal with their carnival music nonsense. Seriously, is a song like If You Have Ghost actually something that a real metalhead would listen to? They are not metal. People also make the erroneous claim that they are so directly inspired by King Diamond/Mercyful Fate, which is just wrong. They are, in fact, a watered-down version of BOC. We the people oppose Ghost continuing as a band, and they should be split up as soon as possible.

So someone has made a counter-petition.

Because this petition is ridiculous, any band that occupies the metal genre with success can only be good for metal as a whole, thus this petition seeks to support ghost and have this silly petition destroyed and show that the aforementioned petition is NOT what metal heads truly believe!

Ghost Ordains New Pope

Ghost

Papa Emeritus I, leader of the mighty Ghost (putting the Satan back in “metal is the music of Satan”) has passed the reigns over to Papa Emeritus II in an onstage ritual. At the end of ‘Genesis,’ Papa I handed his throne over to Papa II, and the band then launched into the live premier of new track Secular Haze.

CD REVIEW: Devin Townsend Project – Deconstruction & Ghost

It’s one of the amazing musical moments of 2011 so far: after various levels of straightforwardness in the first 10 minutes of Deconstruction – some heavy, some restrained – Devin Townsend demands ‘show yourself!” and all the savage energy left dormant since the dissolution of Strapping Young Lad is unleashed, grabbing you by the throat and dragging you back to its skull pit before you know what the fuck happened.

The minutes leading up to that moment – “Praise The Lowered” and “Stand” – leave hints at what’s going to happen next. The former gradually increases in intensity from floaty electronica to metal screams, never dropping the steady but restrained tempo even as the death screams build up. The latter sounds like the spiritual cousin of “Destructor” from Ki (the first album of the Devin Townsend Project tetralogy), and it also drops little crumbs of heaviness behind it, leading up to that ‘Show yourself!’ moment. From then on, anything goes. Crushingly heavy rhythm guitars. Choirs. Blast beats. Death metal. Fusion-tinged chord progressions. Spoken word interludes. Fast passages. Techno beats. Someone taking a particularly cathartic shit. A cheeseburger.
