Help Fund A Film About Grover Jackson

Grover Jackson altered the course of guitar design forever. His pioneering work in what we know of as the ‘superstrat’ would be enough to put him in the history books – and that’s before you even consider the long shadow cast by the guitars he designed with Randy Rhoads. Or his work with various companies in the period between leaving Jackson and starting his own company, GJ2 Guitars. Now there are plans for a film about Grover, his history and his contributions to the guitar. An Indiegogo campaign is underway to help fund the film, and there are all sorts of great perks from posters, DVDs and shirts to a shop tour, a Glendora guitar or custom axe. From the Indiegogo listing:

Hello Friends,
My name is Jon Gold , I am formerly the VP of Fender Guitars and now co-owner of GJ2 Guitars with Grover Jackson. We are making a history piece on the legendary guitar builder Grover Jackson. His humble beginnings and how he turned the guitar industry on his head in the 80’s with his crew of mostly 21 year old kids taking over the troubled Charvel repair shop. Read More …

GJ2 will use the plek in the production of all new guitars as a standard feature. GJ2 Guitars Partners With Cleartone Strings

GJ2I’ve probably said this before, but it’s been really great watching GJ2 Guitars\ grow, and quickly. I’ve had the opporunity to check out many of these guitars close-up and the workmanship is flawless, but just as importantly the creative vision behind each of the designs is very unique – only two years in, you can already tell when you’re looking at a GJ2 even if it’s a model that has its roots in the past like the Glendora. They’ve just announced a new partnership with Cleartone Strings which will see Cleartones featured as standard equipment on all GJ2 guitars. Here’s the press release:

GJ2 Guitars Expands

Arete

Grover Jackson and Jon Gold’s new guitar company GJ2 was one of the coolest booths at last NAMM. It’s really great to see Grover putting his name to guitars again, and the designs themselves are all at once unique and comfortable, from the Concorde to the Glendora to the 7-string Arete to the more affordable Arete 3 Star. And hey, that Green Meanie Glendora ain’t too shabby either. NAMM obviously went well for the company because now they’re expanding their facilities to meet increased demand. Here’s the press release announcing the sooner-than-expected expansion.  Read More …

NAMM: GJ2 Guitars Unveils New Models

Arete

Grover Jackson’s GJ2 Guitars was very quietly launched at Winter NAMM last year. The product line-up was limited to a handful of Arete models, a sleek and stylish take on the Superstrat idea. Over the past year it seems that interest in the brand has steadily ramped up, but as beautiful as the Arete is, one model isn’t really enough to sustain a whole guitar company – especially one with the legacy of a guy like Grover Jackson. And so this year GJ2 Guitars returned to NAMM with a bigger display space and three entirely new models in addition to the Arete: the Concorde (which shares some DNA with the guitars Grover made for Randy Rhaods), the Glendora (which is a modern update on the type of Superstrat coming out of Grover’s shop back in the day) and the Zora, a single-cutaway singature instrument for No Doubt guitarist Tom Dumont. Let’s check the new models out. Read More …
