(STEVENSVILLE, MD) August 18, 2016 – PRS Guitars is celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Private Stock with a revival of the program that started it all: Guitars of the Month. Each month in 2016, the Private Stock team will be offering a unique design in limited numbers that will highlight the fine craftsmanship and remarkable playability that the Private Stock team is known for while utilizing some of the most deluxe materials available. For August, PRS is introducing the Custom 24 8-String model. Inspired by an 8-String designed with Periphery’s Mark Holcomb, these instruments allow players’ creativity to take over with no limitations. Thanks to their extended range, 8-string guitars inspire new technique and unorthodox compositions that can work with any musical style. The inclusion of Holcomb’s signature Seymour Duncan Alpha and Omega pickups offer a snarling and aggressive tone that is also glassy and articulate. Read More …

INTERVIEW: Periphery’s Mark Holcomb

Mark Holcomb

The release of a new Periphery album is always like Christmas for fans of heavy guitar. There’s always so much to digest: unpredictable riffs, challenging solos, soaring melodies, complex chords. Every record is like a challenge to all of us to lift our game. And Periphery III: Select Difficulty really throws down the challenge. Although some parts of the record are more melodic and direct than anything the band has done before, there’s also some brutally heavy, insanely complex material for us all to bust our fingers learning, and then stretch our necks headbanging to. I caught up with guitarist Mark Holcomb to chat about the record and his new guitar. Read More …

The progressive metal virtuosos of Periphery are known for their technically complex rhythms and precise tones – tones which require pickups with just the right amount of output and articulation whether standing alone or working in a dense mix. The Alpha and Omega pickups were created to match that level of precision and versatility. Working with guitarist Mark Holcomb, the Omega bridge pickup was created to provide destructive percussion and growl in the mids and low end. It’s aggressive but it also has lots of clarity and brightness, which cuts through whether you’re playing sophisticated chords, complex single-note lines or intense solos. Read More …

Pro Tone Pedals Mark Holcomb Haunted Delay

Here’s Pro Tone Pedals’ Mark Holcomb Haunted Delay pedal for the Periphery guitarist and all-round nice dude. It’s designed to be an ambient style delay like an old-school vintage tape echo, offering delay times from 25 to 450milliseconds, with a repeat control that ranges from one repeat through to infinite feedback. There’s a mix control as well as a volume knob which gives you anything from unity gain to a 20dB boost, enough to kick things up for solos and stuff. Pro Tone has designed the Haunted delay was intentionally designed to work well with modern high gain amps as well as classics. Mark says “I’m extremely happy with how unique and versatile this pedal turned out, and it’s been an inspiration merely jamming on it as of late. The intention here was to create something truly trippy – a pedal versatile enough to handle the soundscape-y material I’m drawn to, while at the same time having a very streamlined interface, making it easy to use as a songwriting tool – which is its main use for me.” To order the pedal, visit protonepedals.com/markholcomb
