Ovation U.S.A. Custom Shop Releases Two New Adamas Guitars

(April 20th, 2020 — Oxnard, CA) Ovation Guitars’ Custom Shop is delighted to announce the launch of two new guitars, the Adamas Spalted Maple Electric (U581T-SPM) and the Adamas 6-String Cutaway (MD80-NWT).

Located in New Hartford, Connecticut, the Ovation Custom Shop and its small team of skilled luthiers and craftsmen focus on custom made, USA built Ovation Guitars. All the premium instruments produced in the custom shop are born from over one hundred years of combined expertise married with innovative technology and time-tested construction techniques.

Adamas guitars represent the pinnacle of guitar making, true American craftsmanship combined with modern innovation. The guitar series was the first to feature advanced composite bodies with carbon fiber tops. All Adamas guitars feature top quality hardware, the latest Ovation electronics and are accented by exotic woods and detailed design elements.

The Adams Spalted Maple Electric /Acoustic Guitar (U581T-SPM) (RRP $4199.99) is an instrument that immediately draws attention with its slotted headstock and short scale neck that joins the body at the twelfth fret. The wider than normal fretboard, designed with fingerstyle players in mind, provides easy access and movement. The guitars graphite top is constructed from unidirectional carbon fiber complemented by spalted maple epaulettes and its Lyrachord® mid depth body is surrounded by a curly maple binding. The guitar features the breakthrough, pin-less Ovation Keyhole Bridge™, offering a noticeably increased level of sustain and clarity; the result of anchoring the strings via a patent pending, graphite plate under the bridge, inside the body. The guitar is fitted with active direct out making it completely ready for any performance venue. A tough, roadworthy molded case is included. Watch Mark Kroos playing the guitar on the Ovation YouTube Channel.

Also joining the Adamas range is the 6-String Cutaway Electric/Acoustic Guitar (MD80-NWT) (RRP $3699.99). This remarkable instrument, with built in electronics and a graceful cutaway body, is an exciting combination of high-tech materials and ground-breaking design. It features a hand-laid, deep contour, advance composite body with a minimalist, single, offset teardrop sound-hole trimmed with American black walnut to provide a touch of luxury. The sound hole is positioned to allow maximum resonance, amazing tone and projection from the ultra-thin woven, carbon fiber top. The cutaway body gives easy access to all twenty two frets and the Ovation fast playing neck contour provides unsurpassed playability. The Adamas 6-String Cutaway Electric/Acoustic Guitar is equipped with Ovation’s top on the line Op Pro Studio preamp system ensuring feedback resistant performance onstage and a high signal to noise ratio in the studio. It also includes a robust molded case to make travel easy and safe.

REVIEW: Yngwie Malmsteen @ 170 Russell

Yngwie

There’s no question that Yngwie Malmsteen is one of the greatest, fastest and most excessive rock guitarists of all time. But you don’t really get an appreciation for just how good he is until you experience it in person. Yngwie just continues to get better and better, which is no mean feat when you consider how great he was right out of the gate. So, having missed his last Australian tour and his clinic tour, I was really excited to catch Yngwie this time around. Read More …

FMIC Sells Ovation

Yngwie Malmsteen Ovation

Here’s an interesting development. Fender subsidiary KMC Music has sold the Ovation guitar brand as well as its owned and licensed percussion brands to Drum Workshop. Fender sold Guild a little while ago, and in 2014 they ceased U.S. production of Ovation’s New Hartford plant, shifting Ovation production to China, South Korea and Indonesia. No word yet on whether DW will re-open U.S. production of Ovations.

So hey FMIC, while you’re in a divesting mood, howzabout selling Hamer so somebody can bring it back to life?

NEWS: Eastwood Breadwinner Tribute

Wow! I’ve heard rumours that Eastwood were hoping to reissue the Ovation Breadwinner, and it seems this is as close as they’re gonna get – the Breadwinner tribute guitar.

There are a few changes compared to the original Ovation classic (especially the headstock), but ya gotta hand it to Eastwood for making it happen. Electric Light Orchestra tribute bands, start your credit cards.

Here’s the press release.

Eastwood Guitars debuted the new Breadwinner tribute guitar at NAMM 2009 last month to much praise and excitement. The distinctive shape and unmistakable look of this classic model is a showstopper. It brings back memories of the most diverse cast of players like no other guitar, including David Cassidy, Glen Campbell, Robert Smith, Colin Newman, Wally Bryson, Steve Marriot, Tom Morello and Ace Frehley. We can’t imagine that crowd has anything else in common other than the weird and wonderful Breadwinner.

The Breadwinner is available in white or black with white pickguard. The unique form fitting solid mahogany body and 24 ¾” scale maple neck with rosewood fingerboard and 1 11/16″ nut, make this guitar one of the world’s most ergonomic designs with unsurpassed comfort and balance. The cutaway shape allows full access to the 24th fret. This is the first Eastwood model to feature Active Mini Humbuckers with a 3-way and an active on/off switch. The Breadwinner comes with a traditional custom hardtail or an optional Strat style tremolo bridge. To protect this six string 70s dream-machine, Eastwood has created a custom fit deluxe hardshell case, which will be included with the first 48 guitars (so order today).

“The Breadwinner has been one of the most requested models that fans have wanted us to recreate”, stated Mike Robinson, President of Eastwood Guitars, “and from the response at the NAMM show, it will become a very popular model for Eastwood”.

The Eastwood Breadwinner tribute guitar is in stock now and is shipping worldwide.

DOUBLE NECK GUITAR WEEK – Day 3: Ovation Celebrity CSE225

I dunno if it’s cool to mention Richie Sambora or not (in fact I’m pretty sure it’s not, sorry Richie), but the dude sure did a lot for the visibility of Ovation double neck and triple neck guitars over the years.

The CSE225-8TY isn’t an official Sambora model or anything like that, but it sure does remind me of being about 12 years old, watching Bon Jovi videos on late night TV. Jimmy Page also used double-neck Ovation models on the ‘Page & Plant – ‘Unledded’ project of the mid 90s.
