Devin Townsend’s Peavey V On eBay

Devin Townsend PeaveyDevin Townsend’s Peavey V – the one offered up as one of the perks on his Casualties of Cool PledgeMusic drive – is being offered for sale by its new owner. This is Devin’s personal axe, the only production model he owned of his now-discontinued Peavey guitar. On the PledgeMusic drive, Devin said: “This guitar is my personal production model of the signature Peavey DT model that I’ve been playing for 4 years. I only recieved one of the production models, and this is it. Its a very special guitar to me and means a good amout to me. It’s a baritone 7 string Flying V with a mahogany body, and a maple cap. EMG pickups, Sperzel locking tuners and a custom DTP inlay on the 12th fret. It comes in a groovy coffin case and is just a beast of a guitar.” Click here to bid or to see plenty more pics. Peavey’s VYPYR series of modelling amps has been around for a while now, and is the logical successor to the company’s successful Transtube technology. The new VYPYR V.I.P 3 – that’s Variable Instrument Performance – is a world first in that it combines amp models for electric guitar, bass and acoustic guitar, as well as instrument modelling. It’s aimed at the giggling musician: the dude or dudette who might be in a cover band or duo and is called upon to provide electric, acoustic and bass guitar throughout the course of a gig, and who needs recognisably accurate sounds to match particular songs. That’s not to say that performers of original music can’t use it too, but it definitely seems to be an amp aimed at the cover band guitarist.  Read More …

INTERVIEW: Asking Alexandria’s Ben Bruce

Asking Alexanrdia2012 was a breakout year for Asking Alexandria, headlining massive sold-out European and North American tours, and capping it all off with a slot on the Rockstar Mayhem Festival. This year they’ve packed in a stack of European festival appearances as well as a huge, huge show at the Download festival. And now they’ve released From Death To Destiny, their third album. Produced by Joey Sturgis (The Devil Wears Prada, Buried in Verona, Of Mice and Men), From Death To Destiny is heavy, melodic, intense and powerful. And it’s full of the twin-guitar attack of Ben Bruce and Cameron Liddell, both of whom are die-hard Ibanez guys with their own signature models. I reached out to Bruce because I thought it’d be fun to have a nice nerdly chat about all things six-string.

I hope you don’t mind talking guitar-nerd stuff!

I’ll try my best! My guitar techs know more about guitar stuff than I do!  Read More …

INTERVIEW: Funeral For A Friend’s Gavin Burrough

ConduitFuneral For A Friend’s sixth and latest album is Conduit. It’s one of the heaviest records the band has ever done, yet as always the brutality is tempered by some rather complex, almost jazz-like chords. Okay, maybe ‘jazz’ is stretching it a bit but they’re certainly more intricate than the voicings employed by most heavy bands. “It’s funny how other people interpret it,” guitarist Gav Burrough says. “When you’re writing it, it’s organic and it just comes out. So what we try to do is to not think about it. Read More …

NAMM: Peavey Michael Anthony VB-MA Amp

peavey vbma

Would Van Halen I be as iconic if it didn’t kick off with Michael Anthony’s couldn’t-be-more-simple-or-more-cool intro to ‘Runnin’ With The Devil’? …Look, I’m gonna say no. Mike was a huge part of Van Halen’s classic sound, and it’s great to hear him loud and proud in Chickenfoot. Mike now has a signature Peavey bass amp, a nice match for his Yamaha BB3000MA bass, I might add, and it’s an all-tube, 300-watt beast that somehow still manages to weigh in at a manageable 38 pounds.

Here’s the press release.

January 24, 2013, Meridian, MS – Peavey Electronics, known for its commitment to tonal quality and innovation, today announces the new Michael Anthony VB-MA™ signature tube-powered bass amplifier. This 300-Watt all-tube head packs a low-end punch, while weighing in at an extremely portable 38 lbs.

As a member of legendary bands, Michael Anthony has toured the globe, performing before millions of people.
