INTERVIEW: Jeff Sahyoun of letlive.

tumblr_mjd2umUUEl1qm4awso1_500It seems that when I ask anyone what will be remembered amongst the strongest releases of 2013 lately, they immediately elect the new letlive. album The Blackest Beautiful [Epitaph]. Out July 5 here in Australia and July 9 elsewhere, it’s a passionate, powerful, energetic burst of post-Rage-Against-The-Machine angst and ferocity, with a huge organic sound and a world-class approach to subtle but crucial vocal harmony. It’s also brain-grabbingly memorable, despite its complexity. Guitarist Jeff Sahyoun – who also engineered the album – has developed an idiosyncratic style which blends traditional riff-rock with post-hardcore adrenaline and a sound-designer’s appreciation of using found objects for weird noises and textures. Currently on the Warped tour throughout the US, I caught up with Sahyoun while he kicked back in a carpark in the middle of nowhere.  Read More …

Europe-Only Fender Wilko Johnson Telecaster

wilkoSCOTTSDALE, Ariz.  (July 3, 2013) — Fender is proud to announce the release of the Fender Wilko Johnson Telecaster guitar, which is sold exclusively throughout Europe. With his electrifying proto-punk Telecaster chops, angular onstage swagger and pre-Lydon thousand-yard stare, Wilko Johnson is a venerable, influential and unmistakable U.K. guitar hero. With pub rock institution Dr. Feelgood, Johnson was an original ’70s-era architect of the bridge from no-nonsense Brit R&B to snarling high-energy punk. His percussively choppy fingerstyle work on his early-’60s Telecaster furiously fused rhythm and lead parts, inspiring a new generation of iconoclastic U.K. punk, new wave and post-punk guitarists. Fender unveils Foo Fighters sigs

So Foo Fighters are entering an extended hiatus (how extended? Nobody knows!) but that doesn’t mean you can’t rock out with their signature axes. Lead guitarist Chris Shiflett and bass player Nate Mendel have both got sweet new Fender signature instruments. Check ’em out!

New models pay tribute to two undeniably cool modern-day alt-rock heroes

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Oct. 1, 2012) — Through their monster work with the Foo Fighters, lead guitarist Chris Shiflett and bass player Nate Mendel have helped shape the sound of modern alternative rock. Fender now honors them and their distinctive sounds with the new Chris Shiflett Signature Telecaster® Deluxe and the Nate Mendel P Bass®.

Shiflett’s abiding love for Telecasters and for huge humbucking sound now comes together in one kickass new instrument with his name on it–the Chris Shiflett Signature Telecaster Deluxe. Eminently affordable and modeled closely on Shiflettt’s favorite ’72 Tele Deluxe, it features a striking Arctic White finish, a four-ply white pearl pickguard, a roaring pair of new custom-designed high-output humbucking pickups, a 12″-radius rosewood fingerboard for easy bends with low action, custom-stenciled hard-shell case, and Shiflett’s signature on the headstock.
