Great news for fans of the new Van Halen album A Different Kind Of Truth: the guitar tablature book is now available! Order it here from Amazon.com.
Here’s the press release:
Alfred Music Publishing, the official print music publisher of thousands of popular artists, songwriters, and composers, has released “A Different Kind Of Truth”, the album-matching songbook to Van Halen’s first studio album since 1998, and the first since 1984 with lead vocalist David Lee Roth.
Here’s Eddie’s solo from tonight’s private show for friends and family at the Forum in LA. It was a dress rehearsal for the forthcoming tour. Compare this to the solo he played on the Live: Right Here Right Now live video 20 years ago – whoa. And check out the energy towards the end – he even throws in a few classic EVH jumps!
Fourteen years since their last full album of original material and 28 since their last album with David Lee Roth, Van Halen finally, triumphantly returns with A Different Kind Of Truth. Sure, Michael Anthony is no longer there, sure Dave’s voice sounds a little more weathered than it did during his original run, and EVH’s guitar tone is fizzier and more distorted than it ever was in the early 80s, but hey, you can’t have everything exactly as it was three decades ago.
Notice the EVH Wolfgang bass played by Wolfgang Van Halen at the band’s Cafe Wha? gig the other night? Check out the pic below from VHND.com. I wonder if these will make it into production. Imagine one with a stained black flamed maple top. A five-string version would be pretty badass too.

Van Halen, Rock And Roll Hall of Fame inductees and one of the most important and influential rock bands of all time, announced their return to the live stage with an extraordinary 2012 North American tour. The announcement was made during a once-in-a-lifetime performance, at the intimate Café Wha? in New York City on January 5th. Known around the world for some of the most iconic live performances in music history, the legendary rock band will begin their tour on February 18th. Kool & The Gang will join Van Halen for select tour dates.
In addition, Van Halen confirmed their new album, A Different Kind Of Truth, will be released in the U.S. by Interscope Records on February 7th. A Different Kind Of Truth is Van Halen’s first original studio album with singer David Lee Roth since the band’s classic multi-platinum album 1984.
UPDATE: It seems this didn’t end up happening for some reason. The gig is still going on as I type this and Van Halen News Desk is tweeting. VH have played a new song called “She’s The One.” Keep an eye on the VHND twitter for more info, and let’s see if footage from the show makes it to YouTube later in the week.
In the meantime, check this out.
