Seymour Duncan Studio Bass Compressor

Studio-Bass-Compressor

PRESS RELEASE: The Studio Bass Compressor is a studio-grade soft-knee compressor designed for bassists who want to take control of the dynamics of their sound, from a subtle smoothing-out of peaks and valleys to the most squished and pinched extremes and everywhere in between. It’s extremely low noise and has an easy-to-use control format: The Blend knob allows you to adjust the amount of wet signal so you can bring natural snap back into your individual notes. The Volume knob lets you control the output (or you can push it up and lower the Compression for a great clean boost). The Attack knob regulates how quickly the compressor reacts to your initial pick attack – cranking it up will give a late attack that allows your pick or finger dynamics to come through before the compression kicks in. The Compressor knob is the heart of the pedal and allows you to easily control the dynamic range.  Read More …

EVH Wolfgang Special. Mmm, Stripey…

evh3

One of the cool ‘Wait a minute… what’s that I see in the corner?’ things from NAMM was this EVH Wolfgang Special with hard-tail bridge and ‘bumblebee’ striped finish. They’re only making 150 of them and the MSRP is $1,793.00. This is the first official striped Wolfgang and I hope there are many to follow. Who wouldn’t want a red, white and black striped Wolfgang with Floyd Rose, huh?  Read More …

Michael Kelly 1950s Series 7 & 8-Strings!

kelly1

This is hands down one of the coolest things I saw at NAMM: a pair of new 1950s Series models by Michael Kelly Guitars. A 7-string and an 8-string! I’ve always felt that the Telecaster-style design is perfect for extended range instruments because it really encourages attack and note separation, and prompts the player to explore all sorts of interesting chordal stuff. Plus they look badass. They’re rocking Flame Maple tops of Alder bodies with Maple necks, Rosewood fretboards, Rockfield Fat Ass pickups, and 25.5″ scale length for the 7-string and 27″ for the 8-string. Check out the 7-string here and the 8-string here.
