Yeah so EVH just announced my dream Wolfgang

Have you seen the new gear from EVH yet? Among the guitars announced was this beauty.

If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram you’d know I have a big thing for blue guitars. My main guitar right now is my blue Kiesel Vader headless, and I post blue Ernie Ball Music Man Axis guitars with tiring regularity. So this new EVH Wolfgang Special QM in Chlorine Burst is totally my jam. The only thing I would change would be to swap the pickups for a zebra set. But other than that, this guitar is everything I want.

Okay, enough of my yakkin’. Here’s the press release, which includes info on plenty new models plus something fun: a reflector kit to more accurately spec out your EVH Striped Series Frankie.

Immortal will continue the tradition of the previous two MICHAEL SCHENKER FEST records Resurrectionand Revelation featuring a big list of friends and guests. The album’s main vocalist will be uprising Chilean born talent Ronnie Romero (RAINBOW etc.), along with Michael Voss (MAD MAX etc.), Ralf Scheepers (PRIMAL FEAR) and Joe Lynn Turner(ex-DEEP PURPLE, RAINBOW etc.) singing on two tracks each. Besides Michael Schenker himself, the album was recorded with Steve Mann (keyboards), Barry Sparks (bass, DOKKEN etc.), as well as the three drummers Bodo Schopf, SimonPhilipps (ex-TOTO) and Brian Tichy (ex-WHITESNAKE). The newest addition to the record is keyboard player Derek Sherinian (ex-DREAM THEATER, ex-KISS etc.), who plays on the album’s opening track, featuring German power machine Ralf Scheepers on vocals.

Immortal will feature ten tracks, including the magnum opus ‘In Search Of The Peace Of Mind’. ‘’I wrote this song when I was 15 years old, it was my first ever written piece of music which I recorded with SCORPIONS on our first studio album Lonesome Crow in 1970, getting released in 1972. We re-recorded this song for my 50th anniversary as a celebration and it turned out to be an epic; with an extra extension at the end of the song, which turned out absolutely fantastic with Simon Phillips on drums, doing his usual amazing stuff.“  The result is a true highlight and features even more surprises:  ‘’Gary Barden sings the first verse,  continued by Ronnie Romero – and in the end we have Ronnie, Doogie White and Robin McAuley screaming their heads off, as a tribute to my 50th anniversary. Absolute amazing. Thanks to the guys for doing this!“

The limited first edition of this upcoming MSG album will feature another unique extra: ‘’It will include the MICHAEL SCHENKER FEST – Bang Your Head – Blu-ray, which was recorded during our headline show in Balingen/Germany two years ago: Unfixed, raw, pure and great! There’s a couple of small mistakes, but because the show and recording went so well, I decided to keep it the way it went on the night. It’s live, magic and pure.’’

Hear the new Bob Evans single, ‘Born Yesterday’

PRESS RELEASE: Dearly loved Australian singer songwriter, Bob Evans has today announced his new single Born Yesterday, a gorgeous, nostalgia-soaked rambler of a track, out today, Novermber 19.  Born Yesterday is also accompanied by a beautiful, glowing video clip which serves as an ode to touring during a year where it was impossible.  Bob Evans, the ARIA-winning alter ego of Jebediah frontman Kevin Mitchell, has graced the Australian music scene for more than two decades and has written some of the country’s most beloved songs and Born Yesterday will not disappoint his loyal audience.

Born Yesterday is perfect for that classic Aussie drive to the beach – it feels like summer holidays.  Glistening guitars spread luxuriously as Mitchell’s idiosyncratic vocal hits those brilliant notes in the hook-laden chorus – then the track hits unprecedented highs with a killer sax solo right in the middle of the song.  Produced by Steven Schram (Paul Kelly, Kate Miller-Heidke), Born Yesterday is a stunning addition to the Bob Evans discography, as Mitchell explains the inspiration behind the song, “I was backstage at a Jebediah gig when an old housemate from Perth messaged me with a link to our old share house we lived in that was for sale.  We couldn’t believe it when looking through the photos of the house that it hadn’t changed at all since we lived there in the late 90’s.  What followed was a slew of messaging between us, as well as the other two friends I used to live with in that house.  It was my first share house after leaving home and the whole exchange between us and seeing the house again just brought back a lot of great memories from that time and age, my late teens and early twenties.  I already had the music for the song pretty much written at that stage so all I needed was the lyric to go with it.  It’s a deeply nostalgic song for me, looking back at a stage of my life that feels so long ago now, but at the time it felt like it would last forever.”

The clip for Born Yesterday captures this nostalgia flawlessly.  Shot as though on a vintage super 8 camera, the viewer follows the Bob Evans touring party through gigs, travel, and recording, as the handwritten lyrics fade in and out as the melodies pass.  It’s a perfect reflection of the mood of the song, as Mitchell describes, “My friend Arlo Cook has been taking footage of me at shows and in the studio for years and he came in to the studio while we were recording and took footage, not with anything in particular in mind.  I knew the song would really suit a more abstract kind of video, because it’s about memories, so lots of home made visual snapshots was how I imagined it and then as COVID happened and lockdowns happened, it became more and more obvious that we should make that kind of video.  So it mixes footage from the last few years with footage from during lockdown.  There’s even a couple of seconds of my two kids at the beach in there as well.  It will forever be a document of this strange year we’ve lived through, which I’m really happy to have captured.”

Born Yesterday is out now via Dew Process.

Bob Evans is Kevin Mitchell.

Listen to Wolfgang Van Halen’s debut single. Bring tissues.

Wolfgang Van Halen has just released his debut single, ‘Distance,’ via his solo band Mammoth WVH, and it’s utterly beautiful. It’s a tribute to Eddie, and the video is an absolute tear-jerker.

From the YouTube notes:

“As my pop continued to struggle with various health issues, I was imagining what my life would be like without him and how terribly I’d miss him. While the song is incredibly personal, I think anyone can relate to the idea of having a profound loss in their life. I never intended ‘Distance’ to be the very first piece of music people would hear from me, but I also thought my father would be here to celebrate its release. This is for him. I love and miss you, Pop.” – WVH

Proceeds from “Distance” will be donated to Pop’s favorite charity, Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation MHOpus.org https://found.ee/MammothWVH https://www.Facebook.com/MammothWVH https://www.Instagram.com/MammothWVH https://www.Twitter.com/MammothWVH https://www.YouTube.com/MammothWVH

“Distance”
I’m so happy
You’ve found a place
That’s better for you
Than this rock we’re living on
I’m so nervous
Don’t know my place
A life without you
I’m not ready to move on

No matter what the distance is I will be with you
No matter what the distance is you’ll be okay

I’m so tired
Can’t see your face
My memory of you
Slowly fades when I go on
I’m still cryin’
Don’t want this place
A world without you
I don’t think I’ll ever move on

No matter what the distance is I will be with you
No matter what the distance is I will be with you
No matter what the distance is I will be with you
No matter what the distance is you’ll be okay

No matter what the distance is I will be with you
No matter what the distance is I will be with you
No matter what the distance is I will be with you
No matter what the distance is you’ll be okay

No matter what the distance is I will be with you
No matter what the distance is you’ll be okay
No matter what the distance is I will be with you
No matter what the distance is you’ll be okay

No matter what the distance is you’ll be okay
No matter what the distance is you’ll be okay
I’m so happy
You’ve found a place

Check out Dean Delray’s new podcast, The Grail.

My buddy comedian Dean Delray has just launched a new podcast called The Grail. You surely know Dean from his Let There Be Talk podcast, and the idea behind The Grail is to talk with people who make stuff, just liked the ‘Handmade’ episodes of Let There Be Talk. Although the podcast will feature all sorts of topics like watches, architecture and who knows what else, the first episode is part one of a chat with Grover Jackson. There’s some great music history weaved throughout this chat and I can’t wait to hear part two.

Someone nicked $100,000 worth of Adam Jones Les Pauls

Sweetwater and Gibson Report Theft of Limited-Edition Gibson Adam Jones 1979 Les Paul Custom Silverburst Guitars

NASHVILLE, TN (November 5, 2020) A pallet of new Gibson Adam Jones 1979 Les Paul Custom Silverburst guitars has been stolen from a Sweetwater Music truck at the Flying J Travel Center in Whiteland, IN on October 30, 2020. The truck was en route to Fort Wayne, IN, the headquarters of Sweetwater Sound.

“Somehow out of a truck full of guitars, this ONE pallet was singled out and stolen at a truck stop,” says Sweetwater Chief Supply Chain and Merchandising Officer Phil Rich. “Totaling close to $95,000 in guitars, we feel this person/s knew exactly what to look for and when.”

“These guitars were the dream guitars of 13 Gibson and Adam Jones fans, who had been patiently waiting for them to be delivered,” says Cesar Gueikian of Gibson. “We have decided to publish the serial numbers of the 13 stolen guitars and are appealing to all of Gibson’s fans to keep an eye out for them and let us know if they surface. Our fans should ask any third-party sellers for a serial number before purchasing to be sure they are not being sold one of the stolen guitars.”

Anyone with information regarding the guitars should contact Detective Kenny Polley of the Whiteland Police Department at KPolley@whitelandpd.us or (317) 535-8100.

“Our loyal customers have been waiting a long time to receive these guitars and will be devastated,” says David Fuhr, SVP of The Sweetwater Experience. “We hope Gibson and Sweetwater’s tight-knit community of guitarists will be able to help us recover the stolen items and that the people responsible for the theft are caught.”

As announced last week, Gibson and Adam Jones of the band Tool launched a multi-year partnership and collaboration which premiered on Wednesday (Oct. 27) with the new Adam Jones 1979 Les Paul Custom guitar, a limited-edition guitar from Gibson Custom Shop Murphy Lab that exactly recreates Adam’s #1 guitar, his prized original Silverburst 1979 Gibson Les Paul. Upon release, all of the guitars immediately sold out worldwide.

The Adam Jones 1979 Les Paul Custom guitar comes in a limited offering of 79 replicas which have been precisely aged by the expert luthiers and craftspeople of the Gibson Custom Shop Murphy Lab–led by Tom Murphy–and are signed and numbered by Adam himself. An additional 179 Adam Jones Les Paul Custom guitars for 2020 feature exclusive silkscreen artwork on the back of the headstock, created by Joyce Su and Adam. The two also collaborated on the design for the custom hardshell guitar cases housing each instrument.

One of rock’s most talented artists, Adam Jones is renowned as the guitarist for the multiplatinum and multiple GRAMMY Award® winning band Tool, as well as his work as a visual artist, sculptor, videographer, producer, and special effects designer. For the world premiere of the new Adam Jones Les Paul Custom, Adam created and scored the animated short film, The Witness. Composed and performed by Adam, the song “The Witness” also features Adam’s Tool bandmates Danny Carey on percussion and Justin Chancellor on bass, and was mixed by Joe Barresi. Watch and share The Witness, streaming on Gibson TV, Here.

Skink Tank announce 7-track, self-titled cassette

Skink Tank are three mates who like lizards and playing music together. Their style is punchy, defiantly optimistic and full of life, as they explore the wimpy side of pub rock.

Psychic Hysteria is thrilled to be releasing Skink Tank’s debut EP on a limited run of cassettes and digitally November 27. The Skink Tank EP is a collection of catchy tracks that wants you to feel like it’s okay not to feel okay, and that you can even have fun with it. It addresses the big issues in life, such as being a party pooper during New Year’s Eve celebrations, daydreaming in the workplace, trying not to become your Dad, and buying your veggies locally (except for when you don’t).

The EP was recorded in between lockdowns at a disused farm in Lancefield, not far from the ancient Wurundjeri greenstone quarry, Wil-im-ee Moor-ring (“axe-place”).

Lead single and opener Melbourne Water is a jangly ode to bush crew work, and the sense of wonder found in unlikely places. Another highlight, Look at Me Now is a waltzing defence of feeling unsuccessful at adult life.
